| Weight
loss and other eating disorders
Hello dear readers and faithful
XT followers!
While most third world citizens
are trying their best to get enough to eat, just to survive, we are doing
our best to lose weight because of over-eating.
Over-eating has long been
the subject of negative comments, chastisement and ridicule when the result
is excessive body fat.
OK there are people who actually
like fat and who like being fat and they are welcome to it. However, fat
has many undesirable side effects which can ruin your quality of life.
We don't need to point them out because you know about them already.
Over-eating with all it's
stigmata must be one of the least harmful sins a person can commit. Ignoring
long term effects, it doesn't really hurt anyone except the eater. After
all, for many people, eating is the only real pleasure they have in life.
Eating is a great substitute
for loneliness although I believe it can tend to exacerbate the problem
by making oneself even less attractive to others.
Being ultra skinny is just
as bad of course.
Not that appearance alone
should be a measure of attraction but nevertheless it does play a major
role in how people view others.
There must be a gazillion
cures for fatness. I rule out plates of celery and lettuce.
I rule out exercise too - at least until I reach my ideal weight .. dragging
all those extra kilos around makes me less interested in exercise as a
remedy. Besides, I'm addicted to chocolate chip cookies and ice cream..
I urge you to look at the
Vitali-trim weight loss program in the next column. Now that's what I call
a miracle cure! I've already ordered the free trial. I'm already
looking forward to the new slimmer me! "Wait 'til they get a load'a
me!" (thanks Jack)
Some say eating is a substitute
for sex, but as they say in Gerry Springer's show - we don't want to go
there right now.. Besides, I've got a very full tummy and I'm not in the
mood .. :-)
Magical Egypt is our country
of the month.
Wishing you good health and
a wonderful month until next time.

Month's Country |
| Egypt

In the fifth century BC Herodotus
wrote that 'nowhere are there so many marvelous things' as in Egypt, 'nor
in the world besides are to be seen so many things of unspeakable greatness'
- and not too much has changed. Since long before the birth of Christ,
travelers have been drawn to this extraordinary country and its pyramids,
Sphinx, ancient Luxor and River Nile. It's not just the Pharaonic monuments
either - it's the legacy of the Greeks and Romans, the churches and monasteries
of the early Christians, and the overwhelming profusion of art and architecture
accumulated from centuries of successive Islamic dynasties.
Modern Egypt is an amalgam
of these legacies and more, juxtaposed with the often incongruous influences
of the 20th and 21st centuries. Mud brick villages stand beside millennia
old ruins surrounded by buildings of steel and glass. Bedouins live in
goatskin tents and farmers till the earth with the simple tools of their
ancestors. Some townsfolk dress in long flowing robes, others in Levis
and Reeboks, and city traffic competes with donkey drawn carts and wandering
goats. Nowhere are these contrasts played out so colorfully as in Cairo,
a massive city thronged with people and ringing to the sound of car horns,
ghetto-blasters and muezzins summoning the faithful to prayer. Egypt isn't
all chaos and clatter, however. It's also a diver's dream dip, a trek across
the sands on a camel or a long lazy punt down the Nile.

| Wrist
Communicator

The
WristLinx Communicator Model X2X is the first watch to make the vision
of Dick Tracy (almost) a reality. Believe it or not, inside this little
gadget is a two-way radio. Don't think you'll be able to make cross
country phone calls on this thing. The range is limited to about 1.5 miles.
And it won't do you any good unless you're calling someone with the same
type of watch. As with a cellphone, you're going to need to recharge the
battery often. But for $50 it's pretty snazzy, and using it is a whole
lot easier than sending text messages as all the kids are doing today.
We
are still waiting for the genuine Dick Tracy videophone
...
but it must be surely only a few months away now (editor).

Flag |
| Arab Republic of Egypt

Three
equal horizontal bands of red (top), white, and black with the national
emblem (a shield superimposed on a golden eagle facing the hoist side above
a scroll bearing the name of the country in Arabic) centered in the white
band; similar to the flag of Yemen, which has a plain white band; also
similar to the flag of Syria, which has two green stars, and to the flag
of Iraq, which has three green stars (plus an Arabic inscription) in a
horizontal line centered in the white band.

| The Aswan High Dam

The Aswan High Dam across
the mighty river Nile is perhaps one of the most controversial of the existing
big dams in the world. Political, economic and environmental arguments
have been raised against it ever since its construction in the early 1960s.
But Asit K. Biswas, after a careful evaluation of the dam's impact on Egypt,
concludes that it has been overwhelmingly beneficial to the country.

| President Hosny Mubarak

President Hosny Mubarak is
much more than the leader of the great Arabic Republic of Egypt. He is
a bastion of world peace and a charismatic leader of unquestionable honor
and moral standards.
Mohammed Hosny Mubarak was
born in Al-Menoufiyah governorate, located in the heart of Egypt, in the
Delta area. Upon his completion of high school, Mr. Mubarak joined the
Egyptian Military Academy, where he received his Bachelor Degree in Military
Sciences.
In 1950, Mr. Mubarak joined
the Air Force Academy and earned his Bachelor in Aviation Sciences. Since
then he has held many command positions in the Egyptian Air Force as a
Pilot, Instructor, Squadron Leader and Base Commander. In 1964, Mr. Mubarak
headed the Egyptian Military delegation to the USSR and was appointed as
the Commander of the Western Air Force Base, at Cairo West Airfield.
During the period from
1967 to 1972, he was appointed as the Director of the Air Force Academy
and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Air Force, and remained in this post
until 1972 when he became Commander of the Air Force and Deputy Minister
for Military Affairs. In October 1973, he was promoted to the rank of Air
Marshall. In April 1975, Mr. Mubarak was named as Vice president of Egypt
and was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Party
(NDP), in 1978.
In 1981, Mr. Mubarak became
President of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Chairman of the National
Democratic Party. President Mubarak was re-elected by majority votes in
1987,1993, and 1999 for three successive terms.

| Game
of the Month |
| Pharaoh

I remember
playing the demo for Pharaoh and instantly being impressed with the game.
If the demo was this good, how much better would the game be? Later I finally
purchased the game and have not regretted it. The graphics are perfect
for this genre, gameplay is deep and satisfying, the goals are real and
straight forward, and replay ability is incredible. If you enjoy city builder,
economics strategy games you will enjoy Pharaoh. Think of Pharaoh as Sim
City with an Egyptian theme and an actual mission other than just building
a city, and you'll get the idea. Not only do you have to plan a layout
for your city to make it attractive for citizens and beautiful to behold,
but you most also plan your industry, provide entertainment venues, education,
and most importantly food and water.
You
can download a demo but be warned it's over 50 MB. There are free
screensavers and theme packs too. The background theme music by Henry
Beckett is magnificent! The tunes can be downloaded (MP3)
Have
your sound and sub woofer switched on for the exciting intro! Please
