| The
Elusive Dream
Hola dear reader, thank you
for visiting once more.
Here it is again already,
the mother of all months is back! We are hoping for a September that is
free of ghastly surprises. At least we are now much better prepared to
prevent cowardly acts of evil against innocent people.
Well it's finally happened
to me, after spending nearly two years working on the Internet, 7 days
a week and between 10 and 16 hours a day on average, I have to admit that
I have not been as successful as I'd planned.
I started out just before
the end of the dot-com boom with great expectations of becoming mildy wealthy.
I've worked really hard and given it my best shot. I've enjoyed the whole
experience, although a successful return on my investment would have been
a welcome bonus.
Returning to the real world,
I'm busy building a new dental practice where I can start to pay off the
loans and credit that I obtained to finance my sojourn on the Internet,
after first paying off the loan to build the new dental practice!
It doesn't mean I'll be giving
up working on the web, or giving up creating this newsletter, it just means
spending a lot less time with the keyboard and mouse than before.
There are evidently many
ways to make lots of money on the Internet with scams and sleaze, however
I chose not to go down that path. I want to earn money honestly, if it's
at all possible.
I don't want to discourage
any of you out there. The web is evolving daily and who knows what dreams
may come?
As for me, my dream remains
elusive and out of reach.
However, I have made some
excellent friends on the web whose email messages are always a welcome
site in my mail box. Their friendship has been a valuable reward
for my time spent on the internet.
Identity theft
If you've received any email
from my email address (other than the monthly reminder about this newsletter)
then it's not from me at all, but from some unscrupulous spammer who is
using my identity. I have informed my ISP in case anti-spammers make a
complaint. If anyone can help me with this problem, please let me know
what to do.

Month's Country |
| Mexico

Mexico is a traveler's paradise,
crammed with a multitude of opposing identities: desert landscapes, snow-capped
volcanoes, ancient ruins, teeming industrialised cities, time-warped colonial
towns, glitzy resorts, lonely beaches and a world-beating collection of
flora and fauna. The bursting megalopolis of Mexico City is a one-hour
flight from the tropical rainforests and Mayan villages of Chiapas. Up
along the northern border, Mexico's tumult of heritages merge with the
air-conditioned cultures of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Mexico's profusion of people
and landscapes reflects the country's extraordinary history - part Amerindian,
part Spanish. One look at this country is enough to remind visitors that
there is nothing new about the so-called New World. Despite the considerable
colonial legacy and rampant modernization, almost 60 distinct indigenous
peoples survive, largely thanks to their rural isolation. This mix of modern
and traditional, the clichéd and the surreal, is the key to Mexico's
immense popularity as a travel destination, whether your passion is throwing
back margaritas, listening to howler monkeys, surfing the Mexican Pipeline,
scrambling over Mayan ruins or expanding your Day of the Dead collection
of posable skeletons.

their meaning.
Green: The Independence

Red: The Spaniards that

Union
The emblem-shield
symbolizes the Aztec heritage. According to a beautiful legend, the gods
had advised the Aztecs that the place where they should establish their
city was to be identified when they saw an eagle, perched on a prickly
pear tree, devouring a serpent. They saw this mythical eagle on a
marshy lake that is now the zócalo or main plaza in Mexico City.
This flag was created in
1821, when the Independence movement had ended victoriously.
El Día de la Bandera
or the Fiesta of the Mexican Flag is celebrated every 24 th of February.

| Cuisine |
| Cocina
Mexicana

Food
is probably the most important element of Mexican culture. Much of the
daily routine and tradition in Mexico revolves around the ritual of the
preparation and eating of food. In days gone past, the afternoon "siesta"
started at around 1 p.m. and lasted through till about 4 in the afternoon.
During that time, families gathered for their main meal of the day and
after they had eaten, they had a little "siesta" - rest. Back then, the
streets of Vallarta were alive by six o'clock in the morning, as women
made their way to the local markets to fill their baskets with fresh fruit,
vegetables and fish straight from the sea. Once they collected their daily
provisions, the women would return home to begin grinding the corn and
flour to make fresh tortillas for the afternoon meal, and bake fresh loaves
of bread, sweet breads and cookies.

| TV
is BAD for Kids |
| TV breeding 'mean, distrustful'
children

WATCHING lots of violence
on television and playing violent video games not only makes kids more
physically aggressive - it also makes them meaner and more distrustful,
according to a study.
The findings add to research
linking violence in the media with violent behaviour in children and adults,
said David Walsh, co-author of the US-based study and head of the National
Institute on Media and the Family.
The report found a correlation
between exposure to high levels of TV or video game violence and "relational
aggression" - behaviour including name-calling, threats and rumour-mongering.
In addition these same children
were more likely to view others with the most suspicion, the study said.
"Long before kids throw a
punch or pick up a weapon, they're probably treating kids in a relationally
aggressive way," Mr Walsh said.
"This is the kind of thing
that becomes the breeding ground for more overtly violent behaviour as
these kids get older."
The youngsters filled out
surveys of their TV viewing and video game habits, and were evaluated by
their own teachers and peers in terms of how well they got along with others.
They also took a test to
rate their levels of trust and suspicion. Children rated the most ill-behaved
reported more exposure to media violence.

on Creativity |
The Power of Your Creative
Voice
by Barbara Bowen
The Creative Voice is infinitely
more powerful than the Critical Voice. This statement is often hard
for artists and other creatives to absorb, especially if their
Critic has been in the lead, either consciously or unconsciously.
But our intuitive center
is always urging us toward positive change and healthy new risk,
like a lighthouse beacon, calling us forward to new challenges
and rewards.
On the creative path, anxieties
will coexist with the joys, to be sure. But when we are called, we
best surrender, or experience far worse anxieties in the refusal.
Many of us must listen more
clearly to our Creative Voice, truly listen. Then we must trust it enough
to act upon it. If we do act, our journeys will begin to unfold
organically, and we will get closer to who we are, who we are meant to
be. I attribute this unfolding to the notion that the Creative Voice is
the true voice.
Moreover, I designate
the Critical Voice as a false voice. Fighting with it won't help. Trying
to get rid of it won't help. That's because at its core, it contains
something essential that we must recover.
That is, it contains the
power to assess, to review, to re-arrange, to improve.
It was designed to be in
support of the Creative Voice, before it "went wrong," In other words,
the Critical Voice is the "Helpful Editor" in disguise. Contrary
to the impulse to push it away, we need to embrace it, hear it, get
underneath its bullying jabs.
When we do, we recover
its positive attributes and re-position it as a servant to the Creative
Voice, its true role.
This discovery is a joyful
experience. Time and again, clients are amazed by the power of their
Creative Voice, and delighted to discover it even plays a leading
role in this transformation.
Barbara Bowen is a professional
writer/photographer. She is also the founder of GATEWAYS, a coaching service
for Arts Professionals.
