Laughter

The BBC TV series "The Human Face" with comedian John Cleese awoke my interest in the subject of laughter. It's amazing but true how a daily dose of laughter is able to allay stress and bolster the immune system.

Over the past two decades, extensive research has proven that laughter has a positive impact on human health. Dr Madan Kataria in Mumbai India has been advocating this as a form of Yoga and it has been enthusiastically taken up my many groups in India and is now sweeping the world.

I see that the population of India has now exceeded one billion and that's in a land area only 1/3 that of the USA!  India is so diverse in every way that it defies any attempt at generalization. There are 16 official languages spoken and although 83% of the people are Hindu, India also is the home of more than 120 million Muslims, one of the world's largest Muslim populations. It is the home of some of the world's richest people and many of the poorest.

For more interesting statistics about India, its amazing history, its complex politics and economy, in fact all you need to know!  Click Here

After reading about India I was simply left with a feeling of awe. No laughing matter.

The Taj Mahal, India's most famous architectural wonder.
It was built by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan in 1631 in memory of his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a Muslim Persian princess. She died while accompanying her husband in Burhanpur in a campaign to crush a rebellion after giving birth to their 14th child.

The Ultimate Philosophy
Utopia

WIth each editorial I have found myself talking anxiously about the great concerns for our world's future. Well we need no longer despair after all.

I was most heartened to discover that the world is in good hands after all.  There are a vast number of intellectuals around the globe, working hard to make sure that our world is advancing in the right direction.

Every person has thought, at least once in their life, that it would be nice if there were no disease, no crime, no poverty, and had a wish for some other improvement in the Human condition.

Since everyone has dreamed of a better world, it is fair to say that Humanity has a common dream.

While no two humans are exactly the same, we are all of one race, the human race, and we all share the experience of life in an essentially identical manner.

We all work for continuing survival while in this structure, and hope for a happy, safe, and good life for ourselves and for our loved ones.

Therefore, everyone has a common desire for the best life attainable. "Utopia" is the word used to denote the best life attainable.

Since each person has their own unique vision of Utopia, the only universally agreeable description of Utopia is, "the ability for each person to live in their own vision of paradise."

Humanity should strive to obtain that ability.

Dictionary-Thesaurus.com
The fast way to look up synonyms!

Do you often write letters or articles on your computer?

If you're like me, you're writing is often interrupted because you need to find a special word.
With Word Web Pro the interruption is very short because you always find the right word - quickly.

You will appreciate the Word Web Pro.  It's a
Dictionary - Thesaurus that you can download
and install on your PC. It has a 160,000 word database.

The main advantage of this utility is that it allows instant lookup. There are heaps of synonyms or antonyms at your finger tips. It's much faster then getting out your old Webster or Roget's and wasting time, searching for ages.

I can highly recommend this program to anyone who is serious about writing.
It's well worth the tiny price tag of $14.65.

The Nature of Creativity
by Dr Philip A. Himmelfarb

Creativity is an unpredictable, vague and somewhat obscure process.  It results in an idea for a new product or a new way of doing something that is original, new and significant.  It is an intuitive way in which we rearrange vague ideas and observations and constructs a new reality or a new way of looking at things.  The creative thought is usually a surprise although, after a little more reflection, the new idea seems so obvious that we wonder why it hadn't been thought of before by someone else.

It's not possible to predict whether a person will be creative under any particular circumstances.  Creativity is something that is known after the fact.  Just as people have varying degrees of intelligence or height or weight, they possess varying degrees of creativity.  Everyone is creative to some degree, although some people are more creative than others.

There seems to be no particular relationship between creativity and intelligence.  In fact, intelligence is by no means a predictor of creativity.

Intelligence is very different from creativity.  Intelligence is a predictable ability to store and process information in a linear manner and to come out with the solution to a problem quickly and accurately.  Creativity, on the other hand, depends on the mind's ability to range over a broad area and come up with the unpredictable.  Creativity is a divergent process and there is no knowing in advance what sort of idea will emerge.

Most people have their most creative ideas away from the job environment.  When asked, they will say that they do their best thinking while in the shower, while shaving, while in bed early in the morning or just before drifting off to sleep, in the car and when out walking.  Few people mention that they have great ideas while at work.  They are too busy and they are not relaxed enough.

Dr Philip A. Himmelfarb  is President and Founder of Philip Adam & Associates, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin based consulting firm specializing since 1982 in the fine-tuning and developing of corporate processes for product development, in-house training and the facilitating of start-up development project plans.
